Danish students visit Greenland
Riding snowmobiles, going dog sledding, walking the inland ice, watching the northern lights and eating musk ox soup were some of the huge adventures that our Danish students went on as part of their student trip to Greenland.
Our students were impressed by the beautiful, yet raw Greenlandic nature on top of its fascinating culture, which was very different from Danish culture.
Some students have said that it was the most beautiful thing they had ever experienced.
The fourteen Danish students at HF & VUC Roskilde-Køge attend a sixth-form education that takes three years because it is devised solely for those with dyslexia. In January, twenty Greenlandic students from GUX Aasiaat Gymnasium visited the Danish students and got to live with them in their family’s homes. Then it was time for a return visit, in which the Danish students could experience the Greenlandic school system as well as everyday life up close. Furthermore, they lived in a dormitory with the Greenlandic students and went to school together, cooked together and even got to try their hand at living in the breathtaking, yet harsh nature.
The trip was supported by Nordplus Junior and as such became a unique experience for both Danish and Greenlandic students, who formed very strong bonds in their time together.
Creating a new identity in a Nordic country
Currently, four educational institutions from four different Nordic countries are in the process of developing new teaching material on identity. This is created across borders, working together with not only teachers, but also with the help of their bilingual students in class. Though, it is a constant challenge to understand each other, however, the love that students and teachers have for the project makes it a dream come true.
